Check your petcock. The valve under your gas tank (left hand side) it has pri, on, res. Place the valve on; the on position dead center and then take off the hose going to the petcock. Gasoline should come out if a little comes out and then stops turn the valve toward reserve a little at a time you will probably get a little trickle and if you keep on going gas will pour out. This will tell you that your petcock is damaged. My engine not only hesitated a few times but it finally went dead while I was going 65mph on the highway. I put it in neutral and coasted to a stop on the side of the rode. It was scary!! I need to change mine but for now my petcock valve is a bit off center of the on position. I do not know how much gas is also coming from the reserve tank I check it quite often. Ever since I have made these adjustments I have never had this problem. I can change the idle by just moving the petcock to tdc on, it idles rough. Hope this helps and is your problem. I will be changing my petcock very soooon.
